Talana is a leading HR SaaS in Chile, used for payroll, attendance, and employee management. We identified a notable share of administrators using the web app on mobile, despite it being designed exclusively for desktop workflows.
This created a gap between how people needed to work and what the product allowed — a gap we set out to close.
Problem Statement
A desktop product in a mobile world
We discovered that 13% of administrator users accessed Talana on their phones during "transition times" — commute, lunch breaks, and field visits. Critical modules were hard or impossible to use on mobile:
- Salary calculator — with a major spike at end-of-month.
- Attendance module — checked daily by most admins.
- Employee search — needed for quick, on-the-spot lookups.

Who are we designing for?
- Interviews: Validated on-the-go needs and time constraints with real administrators.
- Persona — Remuneration Administrator: Works largely in the field; needs to calculate salaries, manage vacations, and check attendance quickly from a phone.
Design Process
Prioritizing and rebuilding
- Prioritized the most-used modules for responsive redesign based on analytics and interview data.
- Updated UI components for readability, touch targets, and accessibility on small screens.
- Collaborated closely with engineering to ensure performance and technical feasibility.
