Responsive SaaS - Talana
Project Overview
Talana is a leading HR SaaS in Chile, used for payroll, attendance, and employee management. We identified a notable share of administrators using the web app on mobile, despite being designed for desktop workflows.
- Role: Lead UX Designer
- Team: UI Designers, Frontend Engineers, Technical Leads
- Impact: ~3,000 monthly administrator users affected
- Tools: Figma, Interviews, Analytics

Problem Statement
We discovered that 13% of administrator users accessed Talana on their phones during “transition times” (commute, lunch, field visits). Critical modules were hard to use on mobile:
- Salary calculator (end-of-month spike).
- Attendance module (checked daily).
- Employee search (quick lookups).
How might we make core HR workflows usable and accessible on mobile without compromising the desktop experience?

Research & Persona
- Interviews: validated on-the-go needs and time constraints.
- Persona — Remuneration Administrator: works largely in the field; needs to calculate salaries, manage vacations, and check attendance quickly from a phone.

Design Process
- Prioritized the most-used modules for responsive redesign.
- Updated UI components for readability, touch targets, and accessibility.
- Collaborated closely with engineering to ensure performance and feasibility.

Final Solution
- Responsive layouts with simplified navigation and clear primary actions.
- Streamlined salary calculator, attendance views, and employee search for small screens.
- Consistent, accessible patterns across mobile and desktop.
Impact & Results
- Very positive feedback from administrators using Talana on the go.
- Increase in mobile usage post-redesign, positioning Talana as a true companion tool.
- Competitive differentiator among HR SaaS offerings.

Reflections & Next Steps
- Extend responsiveness to additional HR modules informed by usage data.
- Instrument event tracking for ongoing optimization.
